Trucking plays an essential role in Québec’s economic and social development. It contributes actively to maintain the competitiveness of all of our businesses on the North American market. On the other hand, the transportation sector is a major greenhouse gas (GHG) emitter. Thus, in Québec, about 40% of GHG emissions come from this source. Improving the energy efficiency of the road vehicle fleet is therefore at the core of the GHG reduction strategy. The 2006-2012 Action Plan on Climate Change and the 2006-2015 Québec Energy Strategy pay special attention to this.

The purpose of the Assistance Program for Improving Energy Efficiency in Road, Rail and Marine Transportation (PEET)is to support freight transportation companies in their GHG emission reduction efforts. This program is notably intended for owners of heavy vehicles used in freight transportation whose vehicles are registered in Québec.
